Worship schedule for Marathon weekend
Special worship schedule, May 14 and May 15 2011With street closures on Sunday May 15 due to the Marathon, our usual 8:45 Journey and 11:00 Sanctuary worship services are being combined into a special evening service, May 14 at 5:00 pm. We welcome jazz great Etta Cox as our guest musician, and hope you and your family can stay after the service for a pot-luck dinner in the Social Hall.

This week’s worship schedule

Saturday, May 14

  • 5:00 pm: Jazz Worship and Church Dinner; The Rev. Dr. Randall K. Bush preaching: “Improvising an Answer,” John 10:11-16

Sunday, May 15

  • 8:00 am: Good Samaritan Worship; Elder Seldon Whitaker delivering the message.
  • Reminder: No Christian Education classes on May 15 due to the Marathon.

Worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Taizé chapel and crossTaizé prayer service: Every Wednesday, 7:00 pm in the Chapel. Join us after the service at 8:15 May 11 for a class, “Flying in a Small Airplane is a Spiritual Experience?” led by Jim Cover. All are welcome. Childcare available from 6:45 to 8:15 in the Nursery.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk: 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays; 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednesdays. (Check the calendar for details.)
  • Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Newcomers welcome! Room 250.

Musical May
A musical May at ELPCDuring the month of May, glorious music will be filling the sanctuary at ELPC throughout the month! In addition to the special May 14 service mentioned above, on May 22, Dr. Ed Moore, our organist and music director will perform a recital. Read more

Youth Sunday, May 22, 2011Youth Sunday, May 22
ELPC youth will write prayers for our liturgy, select music, and lead our 11 am worship. In addition, our graduating seniors will share their faith stories. We also will ordain and install our new officers during this service. Please join us for this special day!

Holy Ground Service, May 22, 6pm
Holy Ground is a service of prayers for wholeness and Holy Groundhealing for the world, our neighbors, and ourselves. There are quiet hymns, periods of prayerful silence, and a homily ending with anointing and blessing. Rev. Tami Hooker will lead the May 22 service.

VCS Volunteers needed
Vacation Church School is coming up at the end of June and we are looking for adults and youth in grades 6-12 to help. You may also help out by donating: Check the bulletin board from May 22 to June 5 for needed items. Thank you! Read more

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. May’s “Food of the Month” is peanut butter.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of May, the Deacons continue to collect men’s socks, deodorant, and shampoo for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
