Music ministries

Music and the arts play a central role in the worship and mission of East Liberty Presbyterian Church. Our Worship, Music & the Arts Ministry seeks to provide and support creative pathways to God through our various worship services and special events. Dr. Edward Alan Moore is ELPC’s Organist and Music Director.

  • Sunday, January 29, 11am | Allegheny Drifters Bluegrass Band guests at 11am worshipAllegheny Drifters Bluegrass Band, January 29

    The Allegheny Drifters Bluegrass Band will be our special musical guests at the 11 am service on Sunday, January 29. Invite a friend to join you for worship that morning as the sounds of bluegrass reverberate throughout the sanctuary, leading us in worship! You can listen to music samples on their website.
  • Sunday, February 5, 4pm | Concert of Spirituals, “Ain’t-a That Good News”

    Sunday, February 5, 4pm | Concert of Spirituals, “Ain’t-a That Good News”  Invite a friend to join you for “Ain’t-a That Good News,” an inspirational program of spirituals in honor of Black History Month. The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be accepted. The concert will be presented by singers from the ELPC Music Ministry and will feature sacred music of Harry Burleigh, Hall Johnson, and William Dawson.
  • Sunday, February 12, 11am | Essence of Joy guests at 11am worship

    Essence of Joy from the Pennsylvania State University (pictured above) will return to ELPC as our guests in worship. Essence of Joy, conducted by Dr. Tony Leach, was organized in 1991 to perform sacred and secular music from the African/African- Amercan traditions. Invite a friend to join you for worship to hear these talented young singers as they lead us in worship.
  • Sunday, February 26, 3pm | Ed Moore in concert! Organ Recital at Heinz Chapel

    Hear Dr. Ed Moore play an organ concert at Heinz Chapel, located next to the Cathedral of Learning on the Universtiy of Pittsburgh campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

ELPC Chancel ChoirELPC Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm and provide musical leadership through anthems and solos during of the 11:00 Sanctuary worship services. No audition is required, just the desire to learn and have fun as we prepare to lead worship. The choir is open to everyone high school age and older.

ELPC Youth Choir

The ELPC Youth Choir, open to those in fourth through eight grade, participates in worship several times each year during the 11:00 worship service. They rehearse on Sunday mornings at 9:00 in the sanctuary.

ELPC Ringers

ELPC's Schulmerich handbellsELPC owns a set of 49 beautiful Schulmerich handbells, just waiting to be rung! No prior experience is necessary, and on-the-job training is provided. If you are looking for a way to get involved in the music ministry but are not really called to singing, then give ringing a try! This group is being reorganized over the summer months after a hiatus during the interim period, so now is the perfect time to join.

Guest Musicians in Worship

From time to time, we welcome special guest musicians who provide leadership during our various worship services. Recent guests include Pittsburgh jazz legend Etta Cox, a brass quintet and timpani in our 2011 Easter service, The Junior Choir from Third Presbyterian Church in Rochester, NY, Essence of Joy from The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), and Joe Negri.

Ed Moore

Special Events: Dr. Ed Moore, ELPC’s Music Director and Organist

Edward Alan Moore, D.M.A., is ELPC’s Music Director and Organist. We are fortunate to hear his accompaniment on our beautiful Æolian-Skinner organ (click here to read more) in our Sanctuary services, and he performs concerts here in the church from time to time.

Dr. Ed also performs nationally and internationally at other venues. We will post additional performance schedule dates shortly.
