About Hope AcademyHope Academy of Music and the Arts

In 1999, East Liberty Presbyterian Church founded the Hope Academy of Music and the Arts to bring arts to the children and youth in Pittsburgh.

We offer a safe place where young people of diverse ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds can further their personal and artistic growth through the study and performance of music and the arts.

Hope Academy of Music and the Arts impacts the lives of over 250 children and their families a year through music and performing arts instruction and positive peer and adult interaction, giving students the opportunity to discover hidden skills and talents, and build self-esteem in a supportive, caring environment.

The community problem that we address is the lack of opportunity for underserved youth to participate in the arts due to limited resources in the family and cutbacks in arts programming in the schools. The strength and uniqueness of our programming is derived from the partnerships we have developed with some of the city’s finest artists and cultural organizations.

Support

Hope Academy’s program costs are covered by a combination of tuition, financial and logistical support by East Liberty Presbyterian Church, substantial grants from the Heinz Endowments the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Multicultural Arts Initiative and other individual donors, including Hope Academy families.

Partnerships

The following arts organizations have contributed in various ways to the Hope Academy:

For private lessons, instructors must be notified of absences at least 24 hours in advance in order for the student to be eligible for a make-up class. Students taking private lessons will be given a maximum of one makeup lesson per term. All lessons must be completed by the end of the term.
