ELPC/EECM Shelter Meals

About the Program — For many years, members of East Liberty Presbyterian Church have provided and served meals to the East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Emergency Shelter located in our church. We buy, prepare and serve enough food to feed at least 40 men at 8 pm on the first Thursday of each month.

A Need for Volunteers — Two groups of volunteers are needed to commit their time and financial support every other month for one year; each group volunteering on alternate months. Volunteers buy, prepare and serve the meals. The meals are prepared ahead of time and brought to the church by 7:45 pm to allow time for set-up. Dinner is usually over by 8:30 pm, and clean-up takes about half an hour. Although all volunteers are asked to buy the food, prepare the meals and bring them to the Emergency Shelter, only 2–6 of the group’s volunteers are needed to stay at the church to help with set-up, serving and clean-up.

Response — If you are interested in participating or have any questions, leave a message for Joan Heckel at 412/441-3800.
