Care Ministries at ELPC

The care of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church congregation works within the framework of the ministry of Jesus Christ to provide confidential care to those facing life’s spiritual, emotional and physical challenges. The following ELPC care ministries—Board of Deacons, Pastoral Care and Stephen Ministry—are devoted to offering Christian compassion and a listening ear for those who are hospitalized, grieving, homebound or otherwise living through a difficult time.

Board of Deacons

The Board of Deacons at East Liberty Presbyterian Church is called by God to seek out and serve the needs of those in greatest need—the poor, the sick, the homeless, the aged, the distressed and the disenfranchised. The work they do is both spiritual and practical in nature, ministering to the family of faith within ELPC, and striving to recognize and soothe the suffering within the local and surrounding community.

Stephen Ministry

The Stephen Ministry at East Liberty Presbyterian Church is an extension of pastoral care. It is a religious and educational system of training and organizing lay persons for caring ministry. It was named for Stephen, one of the first deacons in the early church who was commissioned by the disciples to care for the needs of the community.
