We come from different homes, different families, different histories. Yet, we are the people of God, unified within our diversity; united in the love of Christ.
Next week, June 6, will be the last day of Christian Education for the summer.
- Contemporaries: “My Trip and Experiences in Israel/Palestine,”
- (part one of one), led by Gwen Puza. Second floor parlor.
- Journey with Scripture: Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31; Psalm 8; Romans 5:1-5; John 16:12-15. Led by Jan Irvin. Second floor library.
- Parenting Circle: We will share a devotion from the book 365 Meditations for Families, discussing themes related to faith and family life. Copies of the devotions will be available. First floor, Harambe room.
- Seekers: “The Meaning of Jesus.” After hearing Borg’s and Wright’s views, what do you believe about Jesus? What is your understanding of Jesus? Come prepared to share and engage in discussion. Second floor, room 234.
- Soul Food,led by the Rev. Cynthia Jackson. May’s theme is “The Heart of the Seed,” as we continue our study of Joyce Rupp’s book Fresh Bread. Second floor, pastor’s conference room.
Additional worship and prayer opportunities during the week
- Taizé prayer service: Every Wednesday, 7:00 pm in the Chapel. Join us for a simple supper at 6:00 pm.
(This will be the last simple supper until the fall.) Childcare available from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm. May 26 Taizé service will be followed at 8:15 with “Celebrations!” Do you celebrate a birthday, milestone or anniversary in May? Write it down and put it in the Taizé collection plate so we can celebrate with you.
- Labyrinth Prayer Walk: Wednesday May 26, 10:00 am - 9:00 pm. No labyrinth on Monday May 31 due to the Memorial Day holiday.
- Centering Prayer: Tuesday, June 1, 7:00 pm. Room 250.
Youth and Young Adults
- Our annual Youth Sunday, celebrated this Sunday, May 30, is a time to celebrate and give thanks for the gifts of our youth in the life of our church. Join us for the 11:00 Sanctuary worship as we hear faith stories from our graduating seniors, enjoy original praise music written and performed by club one sixteen, and worship together under the leadership of our youth.
- Young adults in their 20’s and 30’s (married, single, partnered, with or without children) are invited to Oh Yeah’s! (232 S Highland Ave) on May 30, for fellowship and ice cream.

Ben Jealous to speak at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, June 6, 11am
Join us for the 11:00 service as Mr. Benjamin Todd Jealous, the President and CEO of the NAACP, will be a guest in worship and at a post-worship reception on Sunday, June 6. Prior to serving at the NAACP, he served as President of the Rosenberg Foundation, Director of the U.S. Human Rights Program at Amnesty International, and Executive Director of the National Newspaper Publishers’ Association.
Presbyterian Women, “Israel & Palestine Today,” June 1, 10 am
We will begin with devotions and sharing of joys and concerns. Gwen Puza will share her photos and speak about her trip to Israel and Palestine last summer. Housing ministry opportunities with Open Hand, June 5

“Young at Heart” Luncheon, June 6, RSVP’s are due
The Board of Deacons will once again honor the seniors of ELPC with a luncheon in the Social Hall on Sunday, June 6 after the 11 am worship service. The event includes fun entertainment and conversation about the days gone by. If you are 65 or older, please wear red! Please RSVP to Kate Carlson, (412) 441.3800 x17. Hygiene Kits for Disaster Victims
Hygiene kits are one way to share in a hope-filled tomorrow. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of children and families the world over. Through Labor Day, Presbyterian Women are collecting hygiene kits for disaster victims around the world. In June, the requested items are new hand towels (approximately 16x28”) and new washcloths. If you prefer to assemble complete kits, pick up instructions on the PW bulletin board outside the library. Please leave items or completed kits in the church office. If you wish to make a monetary gift, used for kits or shipping costs, make checks payable to “Presbyterian Women in East Liberty Presbyterian Church.”

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. May’s “Food of the Month” is soup.
East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of May, the Deacons are collecting razors and skin lotion for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support! |
