Bob and Jane SampsonFarewell reception for Bob and Jane Sampson
Join us in the Social Hall after the 10 am worship service on Sunday, August 9 to celebrate the ministries of Bob and Jane Sampson and wish them farewell as they are moving to Austin, Texas. Bob and Jane have been members of ELPC for 35 years and have offered their gifts and talents to many of ELPC's ministries and programs. Light refreshments will be served. (Hosted by Presbyterian Women and the Mission Board.)

  • 8:00 am: Good Samaritan Worship; Ms. Fay Morgan, Executive Director, North Hills Community Outreach, delivering the message.
  • 10:00 am: Courtyard Worship; the Rev. Dr. Randall K. Bush preaching "Brittle-Class Faith."
  • 7:00 pm: Koinonia Service of Praise; ELPC Elder Kathleen Kyle delivering the message. Come at 6:00 for a potluck supper before the service; RSVP to The Rev. Heather Schoenewolf, (412) 441-3800 x21.
Christian Education
  • Contemporaries, Journey with Scripture, Parenting Circle, Seekers: Classes will resume on Rally Day, September 13.

Additional worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Taizé prayer service: Every Wednesday, 7:00 pm in the chapel. Childcare available from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm. August 5 Taizé service will be followed by a writing workshop led by Pen Lytle. Some churches celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord in August; may we come together in the spirit of transfiguring through writing, and draw fresh insight of our own transformation through new eyes.
  • Labyrinth Prayer Walk: Mondays, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, and Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 9:00 pm.
  • Centering Prayer: Tuesdays, 7:00 pm, room 250.

ELPC News

"Funding for Your Future" workshop for college funding
Join us for a free workshop on Saturday, August 8th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on how to find funding for college. Topics included will cover how to develop a personalized financial aid plan; effectively searching and applying for scholarships; gaining access to resources, and thus reducing student loans. Housing ministry opportunities with Open Hand
Please join our Housing Ministry sometime during August 13-15 as we work with Open Hand Ministries to rehab a house for a single mother who will be a first-time homeowner. The house is located in the Garfield neighborhood and is the same house volunteers helped to clean out in March. We also need volunteers to work in the Garfield Community Garden. Hope Academy Fall Term Registration Open
Hope Academy's fall 2009 term begins on September 19! Course brochure, registration form and scholarship applications are available online. Print them out and mail them in. The deadline for scholarship applications is August 15, 2009. Preference is given to previously enrolled Hope Academy students who are in good standing. Auditions are required for our new Hope Academy Theater Company - HAT Co (see Hope Academy page for more information). We continue to offer Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre dance classes (Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet and Ballet 1), Musical Theater, Shakespeare, Voices of Hope Vocal and Drumming Ensembles, private music instruction for piano, composition, violin, viola, cello, classical and electric guitar, bass, clarinet, flute, organ, percussion and voice.

East End Cooperative Ministries Men's Shelter
The EECM men's shelter needs your help. While their need is consistent, donations have declined. Requested items for August are: toothpaste and floss. Thank you.
