Hope Academy classes and registration

We offer two course sessions during the year, one in the fall and one in the spring (just like school). For the complete 2010 - 2011 list of course offerings, including schedules and fees, view our course brochure. Here are some examples!

  • Dance, including Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, and Ballet I—all in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.
  • Music, including private music instruction, orchestra, "Voices of Hope" singing and drumming.
  • Theater, including musical theater workshop, Shakespeare workshop, Hope Academy Theater Company (HAT Co).

To register, print out and complete the registration form and mail it in with your tuition, or bring it to the church.

Most courses meet weekly during two 15-week semesters during the school year—Tuesday through Friday between 3:00 and 7:30 pm; Saturday between 9:15 am and 5:00 pm; and some Sunday afternoons and evenings.

Private lessons are scheduled weekly during three 10-week terms—Tuesday through Friday, between 3:00 and 7:30 pm and Saturdays between 9 am and 5 pm.

Location

Courses and private lessons are held at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, corner of Penn and Highland Avenues in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. Directions and parking information are available on the Maps and Directions page.

Tax-deductible Donations

Tuition covers only a portion of the total cost of operating the Hope Academy of Music and the Arts. Families, who are able, are asked to make tax-deductible donations to cover the difference for their children. We are grateful for your support, and donor names will be listed in all programs, unless requested to be anonymous.

Policies

  • Your full tuition is due when you register for a class. A separate registration form and $10 registration fee must be submitted for each student registering.
  • Students are responsible for attending all scheduled classes. No make-ups for missed classes.
  • If an instructor is ill or otherwise unable to teach a class, every effort will be made to find a substitute. Occasionally, it may be necessary to cancel or reschedule a class. Cancellations due to weather will be announced on the local television stations.
  • For private lessons, instructors must be notified of absences at least 24 hours in advance in order for the student to be eligible for a make-up class. Students taking private lessons will be given a maximum of one makeup lesson per term. All lessons must be completed by the end of the term.
  • If you're paying by cash, you must bring it to the church in person—no cash in the mail, please.
  • Course enrollments are limited. Students will be accepted into a course in the order that their paid registrations are received. If minimum enrollment for a course is not met by the registration deadline, that course will be cancelled.
  • Classes fill quickly and preference will be given to returning students.
  • A full-tuition refund is given for withdrawals from a course 10 days before the course begins.
  • A partial-tuition refund (one-half of the full tuition) will be returned if a withdrawal request is received prior to the second class meeting.
  • No tuition refunds are given after the second class has met, and families are responsible to make full payment of tuition.
  • If Hope Academy cancels a course, you will receive a full-tuition refund for that course.
  • The $10 registration fee per student is non-refundable except in the event that Hope Academy cancels a course and it is the only course for which the student is registered.
  • No partial refunds are given for missed private lessons. Only one makeup lesson will be given per term. All lessons must be completed by the end of the term.
